Adobe is a company that needs no introduction. With more than 30 years in the market and products of professional size, this company is present in the day-to-day of many and is known by millions of people. One of the most recent additions to the company’s software portfolio is Adobe Experience Design. With this program, Adobe enters the field of prototyping web pages and mobile applications. It’s an interesting proposition and I’ll talk about it in-depth in this Adobe XD review.

Designing Experiences

Adobe XD is a program included in the Creative Cloud (formerly “Suite”), Adobe’s most popular suite of applications, and software. It was added to the catalog of programs as a beta in 2016, had its official launch in 2017, and quickly gained popularity in the market.

In this program, you can create designs, prototypes, or drafts of web pages, mobile and web apps, voice interfaces, games, and more. It’s Adobe’s multiplatform bet to compete with the famous Mac-only Sketch.

XD has all the necessary tools to view online the interface of the project you are working on (from the ones mentioned above). This way you can test how a website or app will look, test its operation, edit or modify aspects of it and present a draft to colleagues or clients.

Adobe XD is not a design program like Photoshop or Illustrator: its tools for design are scarce compared to the other Adobe software, but the idea, for now, is that it be used in conjunction with the other programs in the Creative Cloud.

Coediting you work

One of its most recent features is co-editing. This feature allows you to invite other people to work on your project and for everyone to see the modifications and make changes in real time. You need to save the document in the cloud and invite as many people as you want to work on it at once.

If you have a team, this option allows several people to edit the same project, but each one from their team and online. This feature includes a “Document history” in which you can review the changes that have been made to the project within 30 days.

Another striking feature is the ability to share your project. XD allows you to create a link that you can share to show the status of your prototype or design. You can send this link and people can open it from any device with internet access.

Adobe XD Review | Pricing

If you are interested in trying Adobe XD you can do so for free. Adobe offers a limited version of its paid version, with no limit on the number of days of use, totally free. This way you can try the main functions and features of XD without spending a dollar.

The program allows you only 1 active document in its free version, as well as 2 GB of cloud storage. If you want to buy the program, you have 2 prices:

  • Single app: It costs $9.99 per month and includes full-featured Adobe XD, 100GB of cloud storage, Adobe Fonts, and the Creative Cloud libraries.
  • Creative Cloud Plan: Costs $52.99 per month. Includes everything mentioned in the Single app plan and the 20+ programs in the Adobe Apps, such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator

Adobe XD Pros

  • Free plan: Adobe XD offers a completely free plan with no time limit.
  • Integration: You can export items for editing in other Creative Cloud applications with one click.
  • Multiplatform: It is available for both Windows and Mac.

Adobe XD Cons

  • Price: You cannot buy a lifetime license, you must use Adobe’s subscription payment.
  • No advanced design tools: XD leaves advanced design to other programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator.

Adobe XD Review | Conclusion

Adobe XD is a strong contender in the world of prototyping and drafting. It still has certain aspects that can be improved, but the company offers updates from time to time that guarantees to improve the experience more and more.

Without a doubt, it is a program that has a guaranteed market and is on the rise. Adobe XD is an excellent tool that integrates very well with the rest of the Creative Cloud and came to make life easier for developers.
