Adobe Lightroom is an extremely capable RAW image processor. In fact, it was the best I could find. Unless you want to manipulate images, you won’t need Photoshop if you’re into professional photography.
The original files are not edited by Lightroom. When you make changes to an image, you’re actually creating a set of instructions for Lightroom to follow when saving a copy of the file. These instructions are saved in the Lightroom catalog file or in XMP sidecar files.
It has excellent presets.
It is simpler to learn.

Why do some people hate Lightroom?

I adore the quality of photography that Lightroom can produce, but there are some inexplicably awful aspects of it that I must confess I despise!

It moves so slowly. On my machine, the before/after comparison mode is far too slow to be useful (i5 with 8GB of RAM). It appears to be attempting to do too many things at once. I don’t need or want all of the panels to help manage collections. I’m not interested in the library/collection stuff.
At times, it appears to be attempting to take over my computer. Insert my SD card, select Import, and it automatically selects every photo on the card and copies the files to a new folder on the SD card. This is simply incorrect, incorrect, incorrect. Furthermore, if you later decide to move imported files from your OS to a new location, LR will still believe they are in the original location. When I try to open them in LR, it says “file missing.” I guess it’s time to start importing again.
The menus are clumsy, at times unresponsive, and inconsistent in their behavior, which I suspect contributes to the slowness. Open a photo, it’s loading, and it’s still loading… I’ll experiment with zooming in. Loading, loading, loading… okay, try zooming in again. BOOM! It immediately zooms in and out, as if you clicked twice. So I’ll try zooming in again now. Loading, loading… It’s a similar experience browsing through many of the other menus. I seem to have to click on All Photos at least twice to see all photos almost every time.
